Alexis Telfair-Garcia

Prior to joining the Office of Capital & Forensic Writs, Alexis was a Senior Forensic Social Worker/Mitigation Specialist in the Homicide Unit at Brooklyn Defender Services, in Brooklyn, NY. Alexis worked alongside attorneys to help support those accused of murder, most of whom suffered from trauma, severe mental illness and/or substance use. While providing various forms of oral advocacy, her main responsibility was assisting in plea negotiations and post-conviction sentencing in the form of written mitigation reports. Prior to working as a Mitigation Specialist, Alexis was as Associate Director at Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC in their Juvenile Justice Mentoring Program. There she supervised a team of social workers working with children in the juvenile justice system, children whose parents were incarcerated and children in foster care. Alexis earned her B.A. in Forensic Psychology from John Jay College of Criminal Justice and her Masters in Social Work from Hunter College in New York City.
